Reach Out and Read
The Carole Stinson Literacy Foundation is committed to the ongoing support of Reach Out and Read sites in
Merced and Stanislaus Counties. Awards ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 are decided by foundation committee and
announced each spring.
Reading Recovery
Recent budget cuts throughout the State of California have resulted in the decline of Central Valley Reading
Recovery sites. The Carole Stinson Literacy Foundation has currently suspended the Reading Recovery grant program.
The Foundation will continue to revisit Reading Recovery each year.
Use of Grant Funds
Adult Literacy grant recipients are required to provide a written final use report to The Carole Stinson
Literacy Foundation no later than 12 months after grant funds have been awarded. The written report must include a
description of how grant funds were used. Complete accounting verification such as cancelled checks, purchase orders,
receipts, etc. must be supplied in this final report.
Reach Out and Read grants are used solely for book purchases through the Reach Out and Read program. The
Carole Stinson Literacy Foundation has grant award money deposited directly into prepaid Scholastic book accounts for
each Reach Out and Read site.
The Carole Stinson Literacy Foundation may withhold and/or recover grant funds in the case such funds are, or
appear to be, misused.
